Welcome Back

Dear Parents,

I wish to thank you all for your commitment to ensuring that our school is a wonderful place for our pupils to be. You can see how much of a difference the painting and replacement of the fascia and gutters has made to the school. It is bright, clean and welcoming. Any ideas and offers of help would be very much appreciated as we continue to develop and improve the grounds, as well as opportunities for our pupils. Together, I know that we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all our children.

Just a few notes:

The school premises is open to pupils at 9.10 a.m. No responsibility is accepted for pupils arriving before that time. Your children’s safety is of paramount importance to us. Even though the teachers may be on school premises before 9.10, this is in order to prepare for the school day and not for supervision.

On a wet day the front doors only are to be used to enter the school. The school will be open from 9.10. Pupils must go straight to their classroom. The school day begins at 9.20 a.m.

Junior Infants will finish at 12.30 until the 14th of September. From Monday 17th of September their school day will end at 14:00. Ms Doyle will ensure that each child is handed over to the person collecting them. Please make sure to let teacher know if someone different will be collecting your child. Be sure to be on time, your child will be looking forward to seeing you.

We already have a number of stray jumpers with no names! Please make sure to label all coats and jumpers.

Our e-mail and mobile number list is being updated. Please let us know if contact details have changed over the summer. The school sends out texts about events, reminders and important information.

Art/Photocopying fees can be handed to teacher or to the office. This can be paid in instalments. Please ask Margaret or myself for further information.

Our school is a NUT FREE zone. We have a number of pupils with an allergic reaction that can occur through ingestion of peanut/nut products, cross contamination and breathing peanuts in the air.

We are asking for your help in minimising the risk to our pupils by:

  1. a) No nuts/peanuts in school lunches
  2. b) No peanut butter sandwiches, spreads containing nuts such as Nutella and snacks/bars containing nuts or labelled “may contain nut traces” in school lunches
  3. c) Asking children not to share their lunches.

It is important that all parents carry out the suggested measures and reduce the risk of allergic reaction to our pupils.

We give a warm welcome to Ms Ratcliffe who will be teaching 1st to 3rd class this year. We are delighted to welcome Ms Ratcliffe as our fourth permanent teacher.

Our school website is currently under review. If you have any ideas or information you would like to see on the site please email iconnolly@davidstownps.ie.
